Explore Maine

Maine is divided into eight distinct tourism regions, each offering unique activities, events and accommodations. With 6,000 lakes, 32,000 miles of rivers, 5,000 miles of coast and 17 million acres of forestland, there’s plenty of room to spread out and experience all Maine has to offer.

Perhaps you'll discover a charming family campground tucked away along the shores of a pristine lake, a cozy weathered cottage on a bluff overlooking a sheltered cove, a rustic theatre offering entertaining performances somewhere off the beaten path, or a unique museum presenting an intriguing look into an important aspect of Maine history.

Maine enjoys a healthy, invigorating climate; its smog-free air, moderate temperatures and climatological zones ranging from mountain to seaside elevations combine to make the state a highly desirable four-season destination.

Maine has one of the most comfortable summer climates in the nation, with average peak temperatures in the 70s and 80s °F (21°C) throughout the state. Summer nights are usually cool and pleasant – sometimes even requiring a sweater – which makes for comfortable sleeping. Fall is one of Maine’s most glorious seasons, with crisp, sun-swept days (average temperatures are in the 50s and 60s °F) and cool evenings. Winters are generally cold, but prolonged sub-zero spells are rare. Average temperatures are in the teens and 20s °F, and snowfall is between 60-90 inches (152-228 cm), making Maine very popular with skiers and other winter outdoor enthusiasts.
